In my Motion Graphics course last spring, I learned the basics of animation using Adobe Photoshop and After Effects. As part of my final project, I experimented with turning illustrations into animations.
My role: Illustrator, Animator
The Process - Illustration
I began by finding an image of Shea Stadium that not only featured the front of the building, but its iconic neons as well. Once I imported the photo into Adobe Illustrator, I began to illustrate the building layer by layer.

The Process - Animation:
After I finished tracing, I imported two jpegs into Photoshop – one with the neons off, and one with the neons on. Using the timeline feature, I had each photo appear for 1 second on a loop, which created the flickering effect you see in the final piece. For the context of the final project, I imported each layer into After Effects to modify the timing of the flicker in more detail.
